Take a look, it’s in a book

The only thing better than buying a new book: supporting a local bookstore with your purchase. That’s the sentiment behind Independent Bookstore Day, an annual observance that takes place Saturday, April 25 this year. If you want to partake in the fun, book it to these Louisville stores that are joining this year’s festivities.
Bonus: All these stores are participating in the ongoing Read for the Roses, which lasts until Sunday, May 3. Pick up a passport at any location, get it stamped at the others, and enter to win a grand prize.
This indie store’s tale begins in 1978, and it’s been helping Louisville readers find their new favorite books ever since. The two main locations (Bardstown Road + Frankfort Avenue) will celebrate Independent Bookstore Day with a hidden golden ticket worth 12 audiobook credits on Libro.FM.
Head to this store to find a new book, and stick around to read it in the cafe where you can order coffee drinks, wine, or cocktails. To celebrate the occasion, the store is offering drink deals and bonus rewards on purchases. Plus, drop off used books for resale and get a free book for every 10 you drop off.
The Louisville Buy Local Fair will return on Sunday, May 31 at Lynn Family Stadium. Shop local vendors and support the Louisville Small Business Alliance starting at 12 p.m.

Derby
The Kentucky Derby-themed Hallmark Movie “Kentucky Roses” premieres this Derby Day (that’s Saturday, May 2). Check out LPM’s interview with the movie’s star, Andrew Walker, to talk filming, roses, and how to pronounce Louisville.
Watch
The Louisville Zoo has a new Steller’s sea eagle chick, born earlier this month. Watch Piotr, Anastasia, and their new baby on the live stream cam from the nest.
Outdoors
The Parklands of Floyds Fork has a new trail in its network. The Echo Rim Trail in Beckly Creek Park is a 1.65-mile, natural-surface trail accessible from the southern parking lots by the sports fields. Looks like our hiking guide could use an update.
Today Is
National Picnic Day. Call it your sign to finally try one of Louisville’s new restaurants — just take your order to-go and claim a patch of grass somewhere scenic.

Every Thursday, lululemon adds new markdowns to its We Made Too Much section. Read: Deals, on deals, on deals. We’re eyeing this breathable short sleeve tee that’s perfect for warm-weather workouts, or this cropped legging that’s a great price for lululemon leggings.*

In honor of the upcoming Independent Bookstore Day, I wanted to share what I’m reading. I’ve been working through one of the earliest installments of the fantasy genre, Lord Dunsany’s “The King of Elfland’s Daughter,” and really enjoying it!
P.s., Don’t tell anyone, but I didn’t get my copy from a local bookstore. I got it somewhere else.
