Gill up, Louisvillians, fish fry season is upon us. Whether you’re observing Lent — which started Wednesday, Feb. 18 — or just love a good piece of fried fish, here are sixspots to indulge. If you don’t see a place near you, check out this full list from the Archdiocese of Louisville.
Mike Linnig’s Restaurant
Located on the banks of the Ohio, this restaurant has been serving the classics — think: fried white fish, frog legs, and onion rings — since 1925. Drop in Tuesday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 9 p.m. During the Lenten season, you can enjoy your fish with live music in the enclosed patio. Keep an eye on Facebook for the lineup of local musicians.
Good Shepherd Church Lenten Fish Fry
Grab an award-winning fish dinner plus oysters, sides, and pizza every Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. through March 27, plus raffles, pull tabs, and a cake wheel.

DairyDel is now open for its 75th season. The Schnitzelburg staple serves hot dogs, burgers, and ice cream every day, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Derby
5,000 pounds of short rib, 4,000 pounds of shrimp and 50,000 blackberries over the course of the event: All this and more is expected to be served to over 100,000 guests at Churchill Downs’ more than 25 dining rooms this Kentucky Derby. (WHAS11)

Superheroes, romance, and mystery — these are not just sections of your local bookstore but also themes of the Louisville Zoo’s 2026 trivia series. The monthly event starts Wednesday, March 18 and runs through December.
Outdoors
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will soon begin targeting invasive species along state highways to prevent erosion + other damage. If you have noxious weeds on your property, you can apply for treatment by the KYTC by contacting your district — that’s District 5 for Louisville and the surrounding counties. (WHAS11)

Submissions are open for the Cotter Cup, a local poetry competition that has been running for over 100 years. Local students in grades K-12 can submit a poem for a shot at a prize.
