Monday, Jan. 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, celebrating the birthday, work, and legacy of the Civil Rights leader. Several local organizations will be holding events to commemorate the holiday.
“Keepers of the Dream: Beyond the Dream” | Head to the Kentucky Center for Performing Arts on Sunday, Jan. 18 for a free community festival in the lobby from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a play interwoven with music, dance, and spoken word from 5 to 7 p.m.
MLK Hope Breakfast | This annual event held on Monday, Jan. 19 raises money for scholarships for African-American and Latino students bound for college. Tickets are $80 and are almost sold out.
Muhammad Ali Center Community Free Day | Visit the museum dedicated to one of Louisville’s own Civil Rights leaders free of charge all day on Monday, Jan 19. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech will be shown at the top of every hour starting at 10 a.m.

The Louisville Metro Government is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana to pair metro employees with youth mentees. The partnership is part of the ongoing Safe Louisville violence reduction plan.
