🪦 Flashback Friday: Louisville Cemetery

Hey, history buffs. We’re back with another iteration in our series exploring Louisville’s historical markers. Today, we’re taking a look at Marker No. 1992: Louisville Cemetery.

Located at Eastern Parkway and Poplar Level Road, the marker honors the 31-acre cemetery incorporated in March 1886 by prominent Black citizens Bishop W.H. Miles, H.C. Weeden, J. Meriwether, A.J. Bibb, W.P. Churchill, William H. Gibson Sr., and Felix Johnson.

Opening

A nightclub called COCOS HOUSË is set to open on Baxter Avenue by the end of October. Housed inside the former Atmosphere Nightclub and Restaurant space, the new venue will stretch two floors, feature an outdoor patio, and host local and international DJs. (Courier Journal)

Coming Soon

Haymarket‘s second location is coming soon to NuLu. The micro-market — which offers fresh produce, prepared foods, baked goods, coffee, and more — shared a peek at its new facade on East Main Street.

Civic

911 callers in Louisville can now send videos via text and connect with operators over FaceTime. Local officials said the update will help first responders get critical information faster and view footage en route to the scene. (WHAS 11)

Bernheim Forest and Arboretum will unveil a new wheelchair accessible treehouse at its upcoming “Celebration of Play” event on Saturday, Oct. 4. The outdoor attraction has also added accessible pathways, picnic tables, and play features to its Playcosystem area. (WHAS 11)

A new stone overlook opened this week at Cherokee Park. Located near Chauffeur’s Rest, the Campbell Overlook features a plaza, a water fountain, beech trees, a new bike rack, and park benches. (WHAS 11)

Renovations are complete on The Courtyard by Marriott Louisville East. The $3.5 million project included upgrading all 151 rooms, replacing 105 bathtubs, adding new carpet throughout the hotel, and improving the pool + outdoor patio. (Louisville Business First)
