Big Nita Sampler.jpg

Flavors may vary at Big Nita’s Cheesecake, but delicious desserts are always on the menu. | Photo via @erinmneal

A slice of Louisville has been going viral online. Big Nita’s Cheesecake has gained a lot of attention after being featured by online influencers.

Most notably, food reviewer Luke Collins (aka lukefoods) visited the dessert shop — not once, but twiceand declared Big Nita’s the best cheesecake in the country. If you visit:
  • Expect lines — they may last for hours due to the virality.
  • You can try calling ahead to order, but if you head to the store, know that items may sell out.
  • We trust Collins’ sweet tooth, and the cheesecake sampler + cheesecake-filled cookies come highly recommended.

News Notes

Civic

The City of Louisville has assembled its “Community Safety Commission” — a group dedicated to improving public safety + reducing gun violence. The commission includes a diverse group of 24 people who will receive Safe Louisville Crime Plan reports, provide feedback, and exchange ideas. (WHAS11)

Announced

Louisvillians can now get access to two of the city’s biggest attractions with the added thrill of saving money. The Rhinos & Rides combo deal offers general admission tickets to the Louisville Zoo + Kentucky Kingdom Theme and Water Park. The bundle saves $16, and tickets can be used on separate days.
Repeal Oak Fired Steakhouse inside the Hotel Distil, Autograph Collection made OpenTable + KAYAK’s first-ever “Top 100 Hotel Restaurants in America” list. The report highlights hotel dining’s influence on travel, with 38% of surveyed diners saying they’ve chosen a hotel specifically for its restaurant.

Sports

Get in the game this fall with the YMCA’s outdoor soccer or NFL flag football league. Register by Wednesday, Aug. 6, to ensure your child’s spot in these fun, skill-building programs designed for kids of all ages and abilities. See you on the field.*

Pets

Our tails are wagging — it’s officially August, which is National Dog Month. The best way to celebrate is by spending some quality time with your four-legged friends, and we recommend exploring one of these local, dog-friendly businesses.
Older generations are getting confused by the “Gen Z stare” — a blank and expressionless glance that usually conveys boredom, judgement, or indifference. It’s often done by younger people in public; if you haven’t seen it yet, be on the lookout next time you’re waiting at a local coffee shop. (The Guardian)

Eat

Craving a snack? There’s a good chance you’ll reach for a bag of Doritos, because that’s the most popular snack in Kentucky, according to research by HubScore. If you’re looking for a different flavor, we recommend stocking up on some Louisville-made snacks. (Cheapism)

Number

10,752. That’s how many days there were between the release of “Happy Gilmore” back in 1996 and the recent long-awaited sequel. If you waited that long to hit up one of Louisville’s stellar golf courses, your short game probably needs some work.

Mansion Monday

This Glenview home sits atop seven acres and draws inspiration from Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Enter Twin Leaf, a six-bedroom, six-bathroom estate with a chef’s kitchen, dual sunrooms, and a wine cellar with 2,200-bottle capacity. Then, step outside and explore the heated pool and large pool house.

Listen

Changes could be happening in the Big 12 Conference, and this could be a big opportunity for the Cardinals. Get game coverage, analysis, insights, interviews, and more from local experts of the Louisville Cardinals with Locked On’s daily podcasts.
