News Notes

Number

$5 million. That’s the estimated cost to clean up the damage caused by historic flooding in Louisville this month. Crews are prioritizing clearing debris from roadways to allow emergency services to function, followed by public areas like parks and sidewalks. (WDRB)

Today Is

The day after tax day — but don’t panic. The IRS extended the deadline to file to Monday, Nov. 3 in 12 states, including Kentucky, due to the flooding + other natural disasters of the late winter and early spring. The deadline for filing Kentucky state taxes has also been extended. (WHAS11)

Drink

Mile Wide Beer Co. will host the second annual Sour Fest next Saturday, April 26, 4-9 p.m. at its Barret Avenue taphouse. Among the featured guest breweries is Cincinnati’s Streetside Brewery, which will bring a pineapple upside down cake sour ale, among other brews.

Louisvillian

Former Cardinals quarterback Stefan LeFors is now the head football coach at Gallaudet University, the world’s only liberal arts university for deaf and hard of hearing students. An extra point: Gallaudet football players invented the huddle in 1894 to keep other players from seeing their signs about upcoming plays. (WDRB)

Community

If you’re working on your green thumb, head downtown for the Project Kilimo workshop hosted by the Louisville Urban League next Saturday, April 26, 9-11 a.m. You’ll learn which crops to plant, how to maximize your yield, and get more resources on making your garden grow during this free workshop.

Arts

The Plaza on Fourth is home to several new art exhibitions — you might say it’s in a new era. Four Taylor Swift-themed interactive sculptures originally debuted in Vancouver during the Eras Tour are on display until May. Each lights up and plays music when cranked.

Cause

A 7-year-old boy from Palestine arrived in Louisville this week to receive a new prosthetic leg. Saher is in Derby City as part of an effort by the nonprofit HEAL Palestine to fly children affected by the war to the United States for medical treatment. (WHAS11)

Derby

There was no Thunder Over Louisville this year, but your Pegasus Pin still gets you heaps of deals around town. Our friends at WHAS11 have assembled a handy guide to all the running deals — like a free hot dog and soda at select Bats games.

🐾 This cat + dog steam brush de-sheds better than plain brushes or combs, thanks to hair-attracting steam.
🐾 Eager to avoid expensive teeth cleaning? Once-a-week dental wipes can get you there without tangling with a toothbrush.
🐾 Swapping water bowls for a pet water fountain keeps water filtered and fresh — and pets tend to love drinking from it.
🐾 As seen on TV, Muddy Mats are designed to trap dirt, mud, and sand from paws, keeping entryways clean — no toweling off required.
