Like a good neighbor...

American Red Cross volunteers are out providing flood relief across Kentucky. We’ll keep you posted with more ways to help out in LOU as flood waters recede, but there’s always a place to lend a hand all year round.

If you’re an animal lover

  • Louisville Animal Care Society | Turn your passion for animals into service by fostering or cuddling with shelter animals, exercising them, or assisting with administrative tasks + community engagement.

If you love the parks

  • Waterfront Park | Volunteers gathered at the park this weekend to help clean up after this month’s flooding — but you can volunteer at the riverfront year-round planting, weeding, and keeping the park free of litter.

For the outdoorsy types

  • Louisville Grows | Become a citizen forester when you volunteer individually or with a group.
  • TreesLouisville | This environmental nonprofit helps increase Louisville’s urban tree canopy.

City Guides are presented by LouCity & Racing.

News Notes

Closing

Oddbird Bakery closed its doors on Sunday, April 13. Less than six months after its opening, the bakery announced it would be ending its “short but sweet time here.” The upshot is that Quills Coffee is still kicking.

Derby

The Kentucky Derby Museum revamped its “The Greatest Race” 360-degree exhibit. The museum debuted $2 million worth of upgrades over the weekend. Investments in the production value include immersive lighting, plus new footage and interviews. (WHAS11)

Outdoors

Spring turkey hunting season began last weekend, but your favorite spots may be flooded. Before you put on that orange cap, check out this list of where high waters have affected wildlife management areas. (WHAS11)

Sports

What would you do with a million dollars? That’s a question Cards coach Pat Kelsey will need to answer. His new contract is valued at $3.63 million annually through 2030 — a $1 million bump from his last contract. (Louisville Business First)

We love to shop local — but where do y’all get your boring stuff? We’re talking school supplies, bedding, and hardware. To get you started, we’ll mention Oscar’s Hardware is one of our faves for tools. Let us know where you go.

Mansion Monday

Hello, historic charm. This mansion in Old Louisville has it all: sweeping staircases, a heated pool, and the original marble fireplaces. Plus, the bourbon display room is perfect for parties, not to mention the kegerator (look it up).

Beauty

Spring is here, which means it’s the perfect time for a fresh start. Pelo West knows exactly how to help you hit the refresh button. Whether you’re dreaming of a bold new color or in need of a massage, their talented stylists + therapists can help. Book a treatment.*

Seasonal

It’s social event season — outsmart the noise of rumbling crowds and hear conversations more clearly. Most hearing aids have one processor, but these bad boys have two. They process speech and noise separately, so speech gets clearer and crisper. That’s why 540,000+ customers swear by them.*

    Biz

Our Parents’ Gift Guide is almost complete, but we have a few spots left to feature your business’s product or service. Secure your spot just in time for Mother’s Day + Father’s Day.

    The Buy

LED under cabinet lights, so you can finally have light in dark closets, above kitchen counters, or beneath shelves. The wireless lights turn on with a motion sensor and can be adjusted between five different brightness levels.
