A flood of paint
Corn Island is one of the historical features slated for inclusion in the mural. | Rendering by Louisville Metro Government
Did you know? Louisville has 4.5 miles of floodwalls along its waterfront. It’s all part of the robust flood protection systems that keep the Ohio River at bay.
Now, one of those floodwalls will soon get a new coat of paint.
The floodwall at 10th and Rowan Street will be home to a large-scale mural by artist Laurie Blayney. The mural will feature a riverscape scene throughout the seasons. Looks like we’ll have to update our guide to Louisville’s murals.
You can submit subjects you’d like to see depicted in the mural, like wildlife, architecture, and history via an online survey.
Blayney’s floodwall mural marks the gateway to Waterfront Park’s newest expansion, an outdoor play-space built in collaboration with the Kentucky Science Center called PlayPort. It’s part of the ongoing expansion of Waterfront Park into western Louisville neighborhoods.
