Hey, Louisville. You know LOUtoday as the free newsletter in your inbox each morning, packed with the most uplifting and impactful local news. Our team highlights the best of our city — from events and new businesses to exciting developments and the amazing people who call Derby City home.

We have incredible advertising partners that support our mission to bring only the most positive local news and events to Louisville, but sustaining a modern media company requires much more. That’s why we’ve created this reader-driven campaign, with a goal to raise $2,500 over the next 10 days. If you’ve enjoyed being subscribed to LOUtoday, found a life-changing concert in our Events section, used our City Guides to plan perfect days with family, or impressed your dinner guests with all the details of that new development you read about — we couldn’t be more honored to be part of your life. And we’re calling on you now to help support our mission.

A few reminders about who we are:

We curate local news. No matter which news outlet, community organization, small business, or reader breaks the story — the most positive local news and events worth your attention are curated into our daily newsletter. Our dedicated City Editor lives, works, and plays in Louisville, carrying out our mission to highlight the incredible small businesses, non-profits, and city programs you want to hear about.

We’re committed to maintaining our readers’ trust. Fun fact: Our parent company 6AM City has turned down more than a million dollars in political ads since we started — we’re that serious about our brand promise. We think reading about what’s going on in your city should be a positive experience, not something that rockets your blood pressure before you’ve even started your day.

The truth is, we love what we do. Sharing the most positive local news and events with our readers fuels us every day. If you’ve felt the love for our product too, help us today with a one-time contribution that supports local storytelling.

We all need a staycation or a trip to a different city from time to time. Whether you’re a Louisvillian feeling a little cooped up or a visitor looking for a special Derby City experience, picking the perfect home away from home is crucial.

We went looking for unique lodgings around town that showcase that Louisville spirit. So choose your ideal digs, pack your bags, and get ready for a memorable getaway.

Parkside retreats

Luxury Villa | E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park
This modern, custom-built home with an open floor plan has huge bay windows throughout to take in the surroundings of the 550-acre park it’s located within.

Artistic sanctuaries

“Asleep in the Cyclone” | Downtown
This site-specific sculpture doubles as a basement hotel room at the 21C Museum Hotel downtown. It was created by New York-based artists Jonah Freeman + Justin Lowe and is based on the 1960s counter-culture community called Drop City.

Auto Aficionado’s Paradise | Mockingbird Valley
As if the designer finishes, art collection, salt water infinity pool, home theater, and two rooftop decks weren’t enough, this 12,000-sqft rental also includes a private 20-car automobile collection.

Rooms with a view

The River’s Edge Oasis | Glenview
Take in the sweeping views of the Ohio River from almost any room inside this riverside bungalow. This one-bedroom stay is less than 10 minutes away from downtown and comes with a telescope for optimal viewing.

The Galt House | Downtown
Book a riverside room to take in views of the Ohio River at this legendary Louisville hotel, which first opened in 1835. But the real room with the view is the dining room. Located on the top floor, the hotel’s restaurant, Swizzle, has a 360-degree view of the Ohio River thanks to its revolving floors.
