💓 Whole latte love

A close-up of three elegantly crafted coffee beverages served in stylish glass mugs on a dark marble countertop. The two larger drinks have a frothy, creamy top with cinnamon dusting—one garnished with a dried berry, the other adorned with a dried strawberry slice and a small heart decoration on a cocktail pick. The smaller central drink is a rich espresso-based beverage with a thick layer of whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, and a cherry garnish. A blurred red floral arrangement in the background adds a romantic ambiance, while heart-shaped decorations and a red straw rest on the counter.

On the right, a white ceramic mug is filled with a hot drink, generously topped with a tall swirl of whipped cream, dusted with chocolate shavings and cookie crumbs. The background features a textured, neutral-toned surface, and warm sunlight casts a golden glow, enhancing the rich textures and colors of the drinks

News Notes

Open

Today from 12 to 9:30 p.m. is the grand opening of Nook & Nowhere in Shelby Park. Billing itself as the first bookstore, bar, and cafe in Louisville, the shop comes from (and is located in) the former Trouble Bar. See what the first 100 customers will get.
Scottish actor Sam Heughan, best known for his role in Starz’s “Outlander” series, was in town this week promoting his whiskey brand, Sassenach Spirits. He made a snowy video of himself walking down Whiskey Row with Tyler Childers’ “Snake the Frost” playing in the background.

Feel Good

Love is in the downtown air. Tomorrow, Louisville Downtown Partnership’s Downtown Ambassadors will be handing out candy during lunch and dinner hours to visitors and residents downtown. Keep an eye out for the team clad in their seasonal red jackets that say “You can’t spell Louisville without L-O-V-E.”
With all the snow and rain this week (and more on the way) the Ohio River is up, rising above park benches. MSD’s flood protection system includes 26.1 miles of floodwall and earthen levee + 79 floodwall closures, but if you see street flooding, call 502-540-6000.

Ranked

Butchertown restaurant Decade ranked among USA TODAY’s top 44 restaurants of 2025. The New American eatery has been open since 2023 and was doted on by a Courier Journal food writer for having “eclectic artwork” + “a locally sourced and perfectly cooked New York strip.” We’re fond of the cast iron focaccia ourselves.

Arts

The 7th annual Art in City Hall exhibition opens today at 3 p.m. The works of five local artists — Pamela Capps, Janet Dake, Haylie Fitzgibbon, Morgan McGill + DeShon Washington — can be viewed and purchased during City Hall hours and will be on display through January 2026.

Volunteer

This Sunday, Feb. 16, the Louisville Tool Library is hosting a pack-a-thon from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. for the Midwest Pages To Prisoners Project, which sends free books to people incarcerated. Volunteers can also respond to inmate letters.

Biz

This year the Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) will celebrate 20 years of “keeping Louisville weird” and supporting small businesses. On Friday, Feb. 21, LIBA will host a birthday bash at Headliners Music Hall with local yacht rock group Tony & The Tanlines, interactive art, light bites, and a cash bar. (Courier Journal)

History

Women’s History Month is just a sip away. On Saturday, March 29, Oxmoor Bourbon Company will host Women in American Whiskey, an event that will include a history lesson about women’s influence on the spirit, a guided bourbon tasting, and light bites. Tickets are $50 per person.

Sports

Home

How much did you spend on home repairs last year? The average homeowner shells out nearly $6,000 annually on upkeep — but some of these costs can be offset by a home warranty. American Home Shield is now offering $150 off their plans. See important disclaimers on web.*

We set our sidesplitting sights on a good old-fashioned, lighthearted comedy roast of Louisville and took our humorous intent to ChatGPT, the online AI chatbot that uses natural language processors to generate text-based responses.

Here’s what it had to say — if you can handle it.

    Can you roast Louisville, KY?
“Oh, absolutely. Louisville — the city that can’t decide if it wants to be the South or the Midwest. Home of the Derby, where people pretend to care about horse racing for exactly two minutes before going back to chugging overpriced mint juleps. So yeah, Louisville’s cool and all, but it’s basically just a big small town that thinks it’s way more important than it actually is.”

Now, tell us what you really think about Louisville’s top attractions.
“Congratulations, Louisville, you made baseball bats. The museum itself is fine, but let’s be honest — unless you’re a hardcore baseball fan, you’re just there to take a picture with the giant bat outside and then leave.”
    Can you handle more?

    The Buy

Yesterday, we shared our experience at the recently opened salt therapy center Bodhi Salt. We asked which of its therapies y’all would most likely try, and turns out you’re seeing red — red light therapy that is.

Over 40% of respondents said Bodhi’s red light therapy booth would be the first thing they’d try out.
