The house in Winnetka, IL that served as the eponymous “home” in the 1990 movie “Home Alone” is on the market for $5.24 million.
But if you’d like to live your best Macaulay Culkin life without leaving LOU, and for a fraction of the price, we’ve found a house right here in Derby City that bears a striking resemblance to the McCallister residence — complete with an entryway staircase you can fill with holiday hustle and bustle.
The $695,000 red brick house, located off Poplar Level Road, has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, plus a home theater, a rec room, and a family room — so there’s plenty of room to host cousins Buzz, Fuller, Linnie, Sondra, and Brooke.
The formal dining room, plus the fully enclosed sun porch, are the perfect place to hold a pre-holiday pizza party — just make sure everyone is accounted for afterwards.
If Louisville was a classic holiday movie, which would it be?
A. “Home Alone” — A fun romp with heart B. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” — A bit of an edge C. “A Christmas Carol” — The ultimate classic D. “Die Hard” — Only here on a technicality

The wheels on the bus go round and round...
TARC and the Olmsted Parks Conservancy are accepting submissions for the 25th annual annual Design-a-Bus contest, where local school-aged kids can get rolling on artwork for the exterior of a bus.
The theme this year is, “Cultivating Healthy Neighborhoods.” Students should look to their local parks and outdoor spaces for inspiration on how to improve the health of their community.
Here’s how it works:
Open to all elementary, middle, and high school students in Jefferson, Oldham, and Bullitt counties in Kentucky + Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana
Use marker, crayon, or paint on an 11" x 17" sheet of white paper, or create the same-sized piece digitally — AI artwork is not allowed
The 10 winning submissions will be featured on a bus in 2025, with the winners and their families + teachers invited to its debut. The bus will then be used on TARC routes and in parades all through the town.
