Construction on UofL Hospital’s West Tower has reached new heights. Officials held a “topping-off ceremony” earlier this weekto place the final beam in the seven-story, $186-million project. It will include a 30-bed observation unit + four new operating rooms, and is slated to be complete early next year.
Drink
Monnik Beer Co. plans to open a new business in the Pivot Brewing space on Bardstown Road in Deer Park. Pivot’s last day of business is tomorrow, Aug. 31. It’s unclear how soon Monnik will set up shop, but ownership says the new spot will not be another Monnik location. (Louisville Business First)
Biz
The Hub, a Frankfort Avenue late-night club and Bar is moving to Bardstown Road, in the former Somewhere + Nowhere Bar space. The move is expected in the coming weeks, but specific dates have not been announced. (Courier Journal)
Shop
And they’re (taking) off — Churchill Downs has a new gift shop at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. Located on the ticketing level before security, the shop offers merchandise and souvenirs. It’s open daily.
Louisvillian
Local television news anchor John Boel has announced that he plans to retire next year. Boel has spent 30 years on Louisville’s television screens, winning multiple regional Emmy awards during separate stints with WLKY and WAVE. His last broadcast will be on Feb. 28, 2025.
