Dive into a staycation with these rental houses featuring pools

No bones about it, LOU — it’s hot.
With temperatures soaring into the 90s all week, we can’t think of a better way to chill out than taking a dip. LOU has several places to rent pools by the day, but we wanted to throw ourselves in the deep end. We’ve rounded up three short-term rentals, each with a pool ready and waiting for your stayswim-cation.
The pool takes the center stage at this New Albany, IN rental home. A covered gazebo with comfy chairs gives you a place to laze in the shade before diving in. There’s also a hot tub if you need something a little more toasty, plus an outdoor grill to keep everyone fed.
Kick back like Louisville royalty in this 4,000-sqft home right off Bardstown Road. The house’s back deck looks out over a brick-patio that surrounds the pool, complete with lounging furniture. Once it’s time to come inside and escape the sunshine, everyone can have their own space with four floors, each with bedrooms and living rooms of their own.
The barn is perfect for a romantic get-away for two.
Enjoy the privacy of two acres at this cottage in the southwest corner of Derby City. Apple, pear, and cherry trees make white-tailed deer a common sight — you can probably spot them from the pool. Bonus: There’s fresh eggs each morning from the small flock of hens on the property.

Hot Homes: Make a splash at this $8 million Mockingbird Valley mansion with a secluded pool

Renting a house with a pool for the weekend is all well and good, but what if you want to make a splash and own the pool yourself?
That’s what you’d get if you bought this $8 million tidal wave of a mansion in Mockingbird Valley — not to mention an elevator + murals by Louisville artist Claire Hirn. It’s currently the most expensive house on the market in Derby City, and it’s not hard to see why.
The Georgian-style house was designed by William T. Baker, a residential designer based in Atlanta, and built in 2006.
Here’s a sampling of what else the home has to offer:
16,000 sqft, including five bedrooms, seven full baths, and two half-baths
A curved grand staircase inside the foyer
A butler’s kitchen connecting the dining room and kitchen
A three-car garage
The pool is secluded from the house across a short grassy walk

Then of course, there’s the pool, set back from the house and adorned with three frog statues. Let’s be honest: It’s not worth $8 million without them.
I’ve been traveling since last Friday, going all over Wisconsin and Minnesota to see friends and family. I’m happy to be missing the heatwave down in Derby City, but I can already feel myself saying “Take me back to Louisville.”
