Clink, clink. We’d like to make a toast.

This summer — Monday, July 22-Friday, July 26 — we’ll be raising a glass to Drink Up Week sponsored by Heine Brothers Coffee, a celebration of entrepreneurs, mixologists, venues, and beverages across our buzzy city.

From coffee, tea, and smoothies to wine, craft beer, and specialty cocktails and mocktails — we’ll be covering it all in hopes of showcasing Derby City’s vibrant drink culture.

Now, this is where you come in.

If you own a local beverage business or know someone who does, celebrate Drink Up Week with us by offering a fun drink deal or two to our readers — say 50% off margaritas, BOGO smoothies, or 20% off a beer flight (mix it up, we’re open to ideas). Drop your deal into this form by Friday, June 28 and our local City Editors will include it in an interactive map of all the deals happening during Drink Up Week. There’s no charge to submit deals.

We’ll also highlight a few of the can’t-miss drink deals here in our newsletter. Want to make sure your drink special makes it in? You can guarantee inclusion by purchasing a paid content package.

Meanwhile, if you’re a reader who wants to experience Louisville through Drink Up Week, sip tight. Before Drink Up rolls around, we’ll be working hard to pull together a list of local drink deals and fun stories about our city’s drink scene.

We want to know — is there a local business you’d love to see participate in Drink Up Week? Forward this newsletter to them and tell them we’d love it if they joined us.

Thirsty already? Browse through some of our drink-related stories from Drink Up Week of years past:
This content is sponsored by Heine Brothers Coffee. As Louisville’s original coffee roaster since 1994, they take pride in the city just as much as the coffee.

    🎂 Happy b-day, Bernheim

    Bernheim Forest celebrates 95 years

Last week, Bernheim Forest celebrated its 95th birthday — we suggest skipping the candles for this one, Bernheim.

To honor nearly a lifetime of memories at the 16,000-acre wood, here’s a look at some big moments that helped shape Bernheim into the natural landscape we know today:
    • 1929: Isaac W. Bernheim, a German-born businessman and bourbon distiller, purchased 14,000 acres of land ~30 miles south of Louisville as a gift to the public. Fun fact: Bernheim also donated the Abraham Lincoln statue outside the Main Library Branch and the Thomas Jefferson statue outside Metro Hall.
    • 1947: The forest opened its education center.
    • 1980: Bernheim’s artist-in-residence program began.
    • 1988: The forest was designated as a National Natural Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
    • 2019: To celebrate the forest’s 90th birthday, Danish artist Thomas Dambo constructed three giants in the forest — Mama Loumari with her children, Little Nis and Little Elina.

I once had a co-worker who would read the World War I poem “Flanders’ Fields” by John McCrae on the radio each Memorial Day. I’ll leave it to you to take a lookand spare you having to hear me read it aloud.
