This unfinished Victorian Mansion will make you want to break out the tool belt

Last week, we told you about Old Louisville’s 1,400 Victorian homes — the largest contiguous collection in the US — but one place in particular was just so intriguing we had to take a closer look.
The house at 1528 S. 3rd St. is currently on the market, listed for $500,000. The property features a main mansion — which oozes charm but could use a little TLC — and a carriage house. Here are the specs:
The main house, built 1903:
4,928 sqft
Three floors
Eight bedrooms
Three bathrooms
11 fireplaces
Copper roof
Stained glass windows
Ornate staircase with intricate details
The unfinished mansion at 1238 S. 3rd St. features 11 fireplaces.

Carriage house, renovated ~2009:
Two one-bedroom apartments
3,383 total sqft
According to the listing, the home was built in 1903, but it’s likely that parts of it are much older. Kristen Reifsteck, a neighborhood resident + interior designer who’s done extensive research on the area, says there has been a home on the property since at least the 1870s — making it one of the oldest in Old Louisville.
The land on which the home stands was originally purchased in 1868 by Thomas Batman, a veteran of the War of 1812. In 1897, John & Mollie Hayes purchased the home and installed a window portrait of their daughters, Agnes and Angela, which remains in place today.
Agnes and Angela Hayes lived in the home around the turn of the 20th century, and their portraits have remained in this window ever since.

Since it hit the market back in January, the mansion has garnered a lot of attention. It’s been featured by Cheap Old Houses, a newsletter + TV show coming to HGTV this month.

Louisville working to install Wi-Fi at every city park

Last November, Louisville metro officials brought Alberta O. Jones Park online — literally. The newly built park features free Wi-Fi access as well as USB + electrical charging stations near picnic tables.
Now, Louisville Metro officials are working to bring Wi-Fi + digital charging stations to every city park — all 120 of them — by next year. In addition to Alberta O. Jones Park, free Wi-Fi is now available at these other Derby City parks:
Algonquin Park (1614 Cypress St.)
Ben Washer Park (519 W. Kentucky St.)
Boone Square Park (1935 Rowan St.)
Lannan Park (901 N. 26th St.)
Watterson Lake Park (1714 S. Wheatmore Dr.)
The project will expand to between 30 and 40 parks this year, with an initial focus on parks in low-income areas as a means of battling the digital divide.
The Buy
LED signs. Are you looking for a fun way to brighten up your home? Category6 LED has iconic neon signs scaled down to a size perfect for your at-home bar or game room.
Since I started with LOUtoday back in September, working remotely has been a great experience. I get to do my job staying close to my young son, and I don’t have to change out of my pajamas if I don’t feel like it.
