Executive Strike & Spare closing one door and opening another

The Executive Strike & Spare bowling alley at 911 Phillips Ln. is in its 10th frame.
Strike & Spare announced that its lease with the Kentucky State Fair board will not be renewed. The lease is set to expire in July, but the bowling alley is being granted a six-month extension and an option to stay for another two years. Officials say they hope to remain in the location as long as possible.
This is not the first Strike & Spare location to close in recent years, as the company closed its Fern Valley location late last year.
The bowling alley’s departure from the area, which also houses the Kentucky Exposition Center, Kentucky Kingdom, and the location of Bourbon and Beyond + Louder than Life, is linked to a $700+ million renovation proposed in late 2022.
But fear not bowling fans — when one giant bowling alley closes, another one opens. Strike & Spare also announced plans for a new location in Jeffersontown, set to open around Thanksgiving.
The new bowling alley will be 45,000 sqft, more than twice the size of the Phillips Lane location. The new alley will feature 34 lanes with an eight-lane VIP suite, plus a full bar and restaurant + 60-game arcade.
Bonus: did you know Executive Strike & Spare was home to the annual Lebowski Fest, a celebration of the 1998 Coen brothers classic, for over a decade?

Construction to begin on Tyler Park stage

Construction is about to begin on an outdoor stage in the lower portion of Tyler Park.
The new stage will be at the western corner of the park between Tyler Park Drive and Castlewood Avenue. This project is the final stage of a $1.1 million restoration project that the Olmstead Parks Conservancy began in 2018. Earlier phases added a new restroom, refinished the tennis courts, and installed a small parking area to improve accessibility.
Construction will begin as soon as teams finish working on another improvement project at the Chickasaw Park pond. That project began in 2023 and saw the addition of a kayak and canoe launch, new walking paths, and a butterfly garden.
Did you know? The first Forecastle Festival was held in Tyler Park in 2002 — and cost about $500 to produce. Maybe this stage will launch a new LOU staple.
The Buy

The ultimate car vacuum kit, which plugs right into your car’s 12v aux outlet. The mini vacuum + parts come in a compact case, so you can easily and neatly store them in your trunk.
Who do we think will be the first artist to grace the new Tyler Park stage? I’m excited to see small, local bands find a place to play for neighborhood crowds — and who doesn’t love a good picnic with a show?
