Public courses
Bobby Nichols Golf Course, 4301 E. Pages Lane, Louisville | This nine-hole course is named after Louisvillian + golf pro Bobby Nichols, who won the 1964 PGA Championship. The course winds around a water hazard, Nichols Creek, so your short game better be on point.
Cherokee Golf Course is nearly 130 years old.

Cherokee Golf Course, 2501 Alexander Rd., Louisville | Founded in 1895, this nine-hole course is the oldest in Louisville and one of the oldest municipal courses in the US. It’s also the shortest public course in Derby City — make sure you have plenty of irons in your bag.
Seneca Golf Course, 2300 Pee Wee Reese Blvd., Louisville | Opened in 1934, this course has hosted several national events through its history, like the 1958 Kentucky Derby Open won by Gary Player — the first PGA Tour victory of his legendary career.

Valhalla Golf Club, 15503 Shelbyville Rd., Louisville | Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this course opened in 1986 and has hosted numerous major events, including the 1996, 2000, and 2014 PGA Championship, the 2004 Senior PGA Championship, and the 2008 Ryder Cup. It’s set to host the PGA Championship once again in May.

Wawa, the gas station + convenience store chain offering made-to-order food, is adding a location in Pleasure Ridge Park. The chain has submitted plans with the Louisville Metro government to build a ~6,000-sqft store with 12 gas pumps at the former Logan’s Restaurant property at 5229 Dixie Hwy. (WDRB)

Today, the Muhammad Ali Center will open a new photo exhibit highlighting the accomplishments of women in sports. The exhibit features 40 images, which were selected by a panel of judges from hundreds of submissions from 54 countries. See the exhibit Wednesday-Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Icona Pop and Chappel Roan will headline the 2024 Kentuckiana Pride Festival at the Big Four Lawn on Saturday, June 15. Other performers include Friday Night Special, Bungalow Betty, and Vibe Like Ty. Tickets start at $10. The festival will kick off with a parade in NuLu at 12 p.m.

The Louisville Metro Government will host a job fair on Monday, March 11. Over 30 departments, including Animal Services, MetroSafe + Parks and Recreation, will accept resumes. It will be held at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center at 3029 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Holiday
Kentucky Kingdom will be open next holiday season. ‘Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom’ will run from Nov. 29 to Jan. 4. The event will feature Holiday characters — like Santa Claus — for meet-and-greets + seasonal attractions like a four-story, 175-ft-long snow tubing hill. (WHAS11)

Take a tour of whiskey history in Louisville, KY

Louisville has lots of bourbon + history, but the Whiskey Row Walking Tourdistills all the info you need down to sip-sized portions.
The tour is given by professional tour guide and self-proclaimed “Bourbon Baron” Drew Shyrock. Along the two-hour tour, you’ll make stops at multiple distilleries + learn:

From March-October, tours run Thursday through Saturday at 11 a.m., and on Sunday at 1 p.m. They begin at the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Welcome Center, located at 829 W. Main St. inside the Frazier Museum, and finish at 1st + Main Streets. Tickets start at $79 per person.
I know Louisville is absolutely pumped about the PGA Championship’s return to Valhalla this May. What makes it all the more exciting is there’s a real chance a Louisvillian takes home the title.
Justin Thomas, a St. X grad, has won the tournament twice — in 2017 and 2022. The last time the PGA was here, in 2014, JT was just in his first year as a pro. Now, he’ll be one of the field’s headliners.
