The Parklands of Floyds Fork acquires 664 acres of new land
The Parklands stretches from Shelbyville Road to Bardstown Road and is made up of four parks: Beckley Creek Park, Pope Lick Park, Turkey Run Park, and Broad Run Park. | Photo by The Parklands of Floyds Fork
The Parklands of Floyds Fork is adding 664 acres to its footprint in southeastern Louisville. To visualize, that’s equivalent to around four Walmart Supercenters.
The public park system, made up of four parks connected by the Louisville Loop, acquired a 508-acre piece of land adjacent to Broad Run Park + 156 acres in two other areas.
The new land near Broad Run is the largest single property acquisition in The Parklands’ history and will nearly double its size.
The area dips into Bullitt County, and its rolling terrain has a mix of wooded spaces, grasslands, and wildflowers. While plans are still being made on what to do with it, the area will likely be used for hiking trails and as a large natural preserve. The proposed name for the area is The Parklands Preserve.
Fun fact: The new land is also home to the an endangered wildflower species called the Kentucky glade cress not found anywhere outside the state. The small, white and yellow flower is a member of the mustard family.
Broad Run Park opened in 2016 with 600 acres and features tree-lined walking paths, the Cliffside Center playground and sprayground, wildflower fields, lookout points, waterfalls, and the Moss Gibbs Woodland Garden.
As far as the other 156 acres, no details have been released yet on their location or what they will become in the future.

Holiday pop-up bars in Louisville
You can’t miss the wall of Christmas lights covering the facade of Number 15 on Main Street. | Photo by Number 15
A couple of weeks ago, we shared a few holiday bars popping up around town. Since then, several other local businesses have ushered in the holiday spirit(s). So consider these additions to the nice list a gift from us to you.
This downtown pub is wish-keying you a Merry Christmas. In addition to holiday bourbon drinks, you can spin a record at the Mr. Goodboy vinyl record player.
Take Christmas on vacation with tropical drinks made to remind you of warmer weather. Each one is served in a festive glassware with fruity garnishes, like a grapefruit flower topped with a pink flamingo.

I’m a longtime listener of “This American Life.” While I haven’t listened to every one of its 800+ episodes since the show aired in 1995, here are a few of my favorites:
“Americans in Paris”: An hour-long show about David Sedaris living Paris and not speaking French. I’ll never forget the part when Sedaris talks about buying his sister a papier-mache backbone for Christmas.
“Middle School”: Hear awkward and truthful stories from teenagers.
