👋 Hey there

Meet the team behind LOUtoday

Hey Louisvillians, Katie, Jeff + Mandey here. Between the three of us, we get the privilege of sharing local news, events, and conversations with LOUtoday readers in your inboxes and on our socials.

Since we recently added someone new to the team, we thought we should formally introduce (and re-introduce) ourselves.

Meet City Editor Katie

Q: Describe your perfect day in Louisville, in the length of a Tweet.

A: Oat milk latte at Please & Thank You, hike at Bernheim Forest, post-hike beer at Against the Grain, dinner at bar Vetti, and a nightcap at High Horse Bar.

Meet City Editor Jeff

Q: Fill in the blank: The coolest person I’ve met in Louisville is ___________.

A: Muhammad Ali — well, I didn’t exactly meet him, but it’s still a cool story. He and his family ate at the restaurant where I worked as a busboy when I was a teenager. Every single table was full that night, and when he and his family walked in the door the entire place stood up and gave him a standing ovation. It was surreal.

Meet Sales Representative Mandey

Q: Hit us with your favorite piece of local trivia:

A: The song “Happy Birthday” was written by two Louisville sisters, Patty and Mildred J. Hill.
We're just getting started

It’s a glitzy gala that will shine a light on folks who are normally out of the spotlight: Razzle Dazzle‘s Sparkle Ball is returning for its second year to raise funds for food and beverage workers that have hit hard times.

This year, the ball will be hosted by two Louisvillians — My Morning Jacket drummer Patrick Hallahan and Food Network host Damaris Phillips.

Here’s what you can expect to do:
  • Dance along to tunes spun by DJ Sam Sneed
  • Sip cocktails from Blade and Bow and Bulleit Bourbon
  • Munch on local snacks
  • Bid on an artist-designed Christmas tree
The gala benefits APRON Inc., a nonprofit supporting local service industry workers who are experiencing hardships.

The event will take place Saturday, Dec. 2, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at The Henry Clay.

Tickets are $100 per person.

From the editor
Since I joined the LOUtoday team in late September, it’s been a joy getting to know both Katie and Mandey.

Fun fact: When we met for breakfast on Halloween, I learned that my co-editor, Katie, was a standup comedian once upon a time. Now I know why LOUtoday is the funniest newsletter in Derby City.
