5 things you need to know about RiverLink’s transition

In addition to the recent bridge closures, you’ve likely noticed that RiverLink is transitioning to a new tolling system. Here are five things you should know about the transition + what you can expect once it’s complete.
1. Invoices are being held until the new toll system provider is live.
Since Monday, April 1, all invoices have been held for new video transactions (vehicles without a transponder or registered plate). Late fees will not accrue on these transactions and the RiverLink website reports that billing will resume later this summer.
Any registered pre-paid tag transactions will continue to post on customer accounts.
2. You don’t need to buy a new transponder.
The updated tolling technology will work with current transponders. If you don’t have a transponder but would like to get one, you can do so on your RiverLink account. Your first transponder is free. Those without a RiverLink account can register for one or purchase a RiverLink Starter Kit.
3. You’ll only receive one monthly invoice.
Once the new system is up and running, you will start receiving one monthly invoice that includes all recent crossings and any unpaid previous crossings + fees. The new tolling system will also offer more payment methods, like PayPal and Apple Pay.
4. New technology ensures you’ll get your frequent user discount.
The improved tolling system will make every crossing count so that it’s easier to reach the 40 crossings you need to get a 50% discount per crossing in the future.
5. Pay by Plate will no longer be available online.
The function to Pay by Plate online will soon be removed. Moving forward, you will need to call 855-RIV-LINK if you want to use Pay by Plate to pay your tolls.
Additionally, the RiverLink website will be refreshed + a valid email address and a new password will be needed to login.
