A $10 million redevelopment of the former Rhodia chemical plant is underway. The 16.7-acre site at 1495 S. 11th St. has been vacant since 1994. It will turn into a community-led, mixed-use development to serve the Park Hill and Algonquin neighborhoods. So far, Metro has requested proposals to clean up the soil contamination.

Louisville Water is nearing the end of its three-year project to upgrade 280,000 water meters. Formally, Louisville Water employees read the meters manually each billing cycle, but the new equipment automatically collects water usage data. Check the status of your new free meter.

Award-winning musicians Ben Solle and Harry Pickens + Louisville poet Hannah Drake are part of Kentucky to the World’s new KET series challenging the historical narrative of our state song, “My Old Kentucky Home.” The program airs on Sunday, July 2 and aims to start a conversation around the century-old tune.

Do it for the Monet. Whet Your Palette will host a painting class at the Speed Art Museum on Thursday, July 13. Participants will create a piece inspired by Monet’s “Nympheas,” currently on display at the museum. Tickets ($60-$120) include a cocktail + pre-event admission to see the famous pond painting.

June is National Camping Month, so we thought we’d share a few places to camp near Louisville to explore the great outdoors.
Only a 20-minute drive from downtown, this city-owned forest is your destination for a quick camping trip. Established in 1945, the once 1,500-acre park has grown to become the largest municipal-owned urban forest in the US at 6,500 acres.
While it’s about a two-hour drive from Louisville, this National Park located in Central Kentucky is worth the trip to see the world’s longest known cave system. The park has numerous cave tours throughout the year.
I’ve been camping since I was a kid, and now it’s a tradition to buy a poster from every State and National Park I camp at with my family. The latest one we added to our collection was from Mammoth Cave.
