On Thursday, June 22, Metro Council unanimously approved the Budget Committee’s amended $1.3 billion city budget, which will go into effect Saturday, July 1.

Mayor Craig Greenberg presented his spending plan in April, and since then, the committee has held 36+ hours of special meetings to dissect the spendage, hear feedback from the public, and propose changes.

Without adding any additional debt to the mayor’s spending plan, here’s a breakdown of the four adjustments made to the budget to help fit the needs of Louisvillians.

Homeless resources

Infrastructure

  • $4 million added to the $26 million pot dedicated to general revamping across the county
  • $1 million to improving alleys
  • Increased funding by $1.5 million for bridge and road repair
  • $1.8 million appropriation for sidewalk extensions and connections + completion of Alberta Jones, Ward Avenue, Shelbyville Road, and Beckley Station
  • $1.1 million for pavement markings

Parks and recreation

  • Additional $4.9 million will go toward maintenance of parks recommended by Parks for All
  • $1.1 million for continued improvement of Elliot Park, a 4-acre Olmsted Park in the Russell neighborhood
  • $1.5 million toward improvements and expansion of Jefferson Memorial Forest
  • $1.5 million for the Kentucky Street Master Plan implementation
  • $1 million for California Parks & Community Center upgrades

Pools

  • Increased funding at $3.1 million to enhance both the Algonquin and Campy Taylor public pools
Read the budget in its entirety will last until June 2024.

Wellness

Finance
  • Refinance rates are skyrocketing. But home equity rates remain relatively low — which means that now is a great time to borrow against your home. Calculate your payment.*
