![]() Hello Monday. October 18 2021 ![]() Over the course of the next week, Louisvillians have 4 opportunities to give comments to the Louisville Metro Government on zoning regulations for child care in the city.
While Louisville Metro cannot regulate how child care businesses operate, it does have the power to change the city’s Land Development Code, which dictates where childcare providers can operate.
Presently, child care centers with 8+ children must operate only in commercial or office zones, which can mean parents must travel far distances from work + home to place their children with caretakers.
The 4 open houses will be held in person at several city parks, with the first session coming up tomorrow. You can make your voice heard during any of these sessions below:
After these sessions, the Office of Planning and Design Services will post its recommendations on its website for a 30-day review period. Community members will again be able to comment on the proposed changes until a public hearing before the Planning Commission.
Once the Planning Commission makes its recommendations, amendments will be reviewed by Metro Council + other localities with zoning authorities.
How would you improve child care access in Louisville? Be part of the solution.
