22 questions for 2022 + Forecastle Festival lineup

Hello Sunday.

January 16 2022

We’re asking LOU

Happy New Year, LOU. 🎉

2022 is here and with it will come a whole new year of reasons to have Louisville pride. Who knows what new restaurant might open, what eye-catching developments might arise + all the local history we might unearth. But we know one thing for sure — we want to write about what matters to you, our readers, the most.

Tell us what topics you’d like us to cover this year below. | Photo by @theloutoday

That’s why we’re polling the crowd for questions you want answered in 2022 — any piece of LOU life you’ve always wanted to read into with your morning cup of coffee in hand. Want to know where to get the best breakfast bagel? The oldest businesses in Derby City? Which concerts are coming into town? Perhaps a feature on a local legend?

Dream big, and tell us what’s in your heart of hearts, because the questions you asked us last year were some of our favorite topics to cover — like when we identified the Zero Hunger Mobile Market truck + helped a reader find the best Italian sub sandwich in The Ville.

Submit your questions here to influence the stories you’ll read next year — it’s our New Year’s resolution to answer 22 of these. Stay tuned in 2022 as we bring you the LOU answers you want most + watch the rest of the year unfold. ✨

Share this story with three friends who have burning questions about the city we love.

NEWS NOTES

Weather

  • 23º | Snow showers | 70% chance of snow

Festival

  • Tame Impala, Phoebe Bridgers + Tyler, The Creator are three of the big-name acts headlining this year’s Forecastle Festival. Check out the rest of the lineup and let us know who you’re most excited to see here. 🤘

Louisvillian

  • December 18 will now be officially recognized as Jack Harlow Day in Louisville. Mayor Greg Fischer declared the holiday as a result of Jack’s local philanthropic efforts + promotion of the city. Jack showed off the plaque on his Instagram on Tuesday, racking up 284,705 likes and 1,762 comments. 🌟 (WAVE3)

Open

  • Goodfellas Pizzeria at The Baxter — next door to Hi-Wire Brewing — will be open for limited training hours during the next two weeks Wed.-Sun. We first learned the New York-style pizzeria would be slinging slices here in September + soon you’ll be able to order online from Hi-Wire’s taproom, too. 🍕

Community

  • The top 15 events booked this year are projected to have an ~$506.6 million economic impact on Bourbon City. The National Farm Machinery Show and Championship Tractor Pull + the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Thunder Over Louisville are — at this time — expected to attract the most attendees. 📈

Civic

  • Louisville Metro Government’s priorities in 2022 include enhancing public safety, giving investigatory subpoena power to the local Civilian Review & Accountability Board, comprehensive tax reform, strengthening sustainability + equitable economic and land development efforts. You can see details of Mayor Greg Fischer’s 2022 priorities here.

State

  • The proposed redistricting maps for the State Senate and Local Government passed in a vote 8-2, with the House + Senate expected to pass all map proposals by Saturday. Not your area of expertise? Check out our story on breaking down Louisville’s redistricting process. (Lane Report)

Listen

  • Metro Council launched the first episode of its new podcast, “District Download,” yesterday. New episodes will come out every other Tuesday + will cover all 26 council districts. Step up your civic knowledge with episode one, “So, How Does Metro Council Work?” 🎙️

Arts

  • Submissions are now open to students for TARC’s annual Design-A-Bus contest. This year’s theme is “Music in Motion,” in partnership with the Louisville Orchestra. Winning designs will be featured in the 2022 Pegasus Parade and on TARC routes throughout the city. The deadline is Feb. 12. 🎨

Feel Good

  • The Louisville Zoo is collaborating with local activist Christopher 2x to offer its new “Future Healers Got Zoo Buddies” program for kids ages 4-13. Children from underserved communities in the program will have behind-the-scenes experiences with animals + work on conservation projects. ❤️ (WHAS11)

THE WRAP

Editor’s Pick: I’ll go first — the act I’m most excited to see at Forecastle in May is Tyler, the Creator. I’ve been a fan of his since high school + watching his sound develop has been so satisfying.

I can’t wait to hear him perform live for the first time. 🤘
