Hey Louisvillians, Katieand Lennie here. Between the two of us, we get the privilege of sharing local news, events, and conversations with 57,000+ readers in Derby City, daily — here, and on our socials.
After nearly two years, we thought we should reintroduce ourselves. After all, there are a lot of new faces around here between y’all and us.
Meet Katie 🤠
Q: Describe your perfect day in Louisville, in the length of a Tweet.
A: ☕ Oat milk latte at Please & Thank You, 🥾 hike at Bernheim Forest, 🍺 post-hike beer at Against the Grain, 🍝 dinner at bar Vetti, and 🥃 a nightcap at High Horse Bar.
Q: Fill in the blank: The coolest person I’ve met in Louisville is ___________.
A: I met professional wrestler and WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley —aka Cactus Jack, Dude Love, and Mankind— at a WWE event downtown in 2018. I also climbed into the wrestling ring that night, but that’s a story for a different time.
Meet Lennie 🍍
Q: You’re taking someone on a date in Louisville. Where are you going?
A:Hint, hint, wink, wink, to my boyfriend William, who had better be reading this: I’d start the date in the late afternoon, with — fingers crossed for good weather — something outdoors, like an event at Waterfront Park. Then dinner and drinks — plus, coffee and dessert. Mayan Cafe, bar Vetti, or Chik’n & Mi are a few of my fave spots. 💞
Q: You can only choose one local restaurant menu to bring with you to a deserted island — which one is it and why?
A: Hands down, bar Vetti. From brunch and dinner meals to coffee, cocktails, and desserts, what more could I ask for?
A. Convenience B. Clean products C. Anti-aging D. I don’t have a skincare routine.

Sweet treats, but make it vegan

Erin Tachi and Ashley Bender are the co-owners of The Flour Shoppe, LOU’s new vegan bakery on Baxter Avenue.
After an unfortunate accident left Ashley completely blind in one eye for months, the duo made lemonade out of lemons — or should we say, The Flour Shoppe out of flour. Their combined forces bring sugar lovers a plethora of sweet vegan treats Thursday through Sunday, from noon to 6 p.m.
They each have previous bakingbusiness savvy — Ashley from her vegan cake bakery Sugar High Louisville and Erin from her doughnut-focused shop Julian’s Kitchen — to the new venture.
“I don’t think the accident was a blessing, but I don’t know if [the shop] would be here without that happening,” Ashley says.
Visit them at 619 Baxter Ave. for cookies, cupcakes, and more, plus unique greeting cards, additional party goods, branded merch, cake supplies, and classes to come. 🧁
THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Lennie.
Editor’s pick: I am over-the-moon excited to officially announce that I’m part of the LOUtoday team. I’ve been living in Derby City for almost seven years — after initially planning to move after year one — but I’ve come to realize that I don’t want to leave.
There’s so much to do, lots of things to see, and endless amounts of food to eat — and the people are pretty amazing, too. I love going to concerts at Waterfront Wednesday, dining out in NuLu, and shopping at various farmers markets around town.
So no matter how you pronounce it — Looeyville, Louis-ville, Loo-a-vul, or Loo-a-ville — I look forward to continue exploring it with all of you.
